Police are asking for the public's help after a man armed with a pistol stole about $12,000 from a bank in broad daylight in Boonton, a New Jersey town in Morris County about 30 miles west of Manhattan.
The man entered a Chase Bank at 530 Myrtle Ave. just before 2 p.m. Saturday wearing a ski mask, sunglasses and gloves, according to investigators. He displayed a pistol, demanded money and left the bank with about $12,000 in cash, authorities said.
He then got into a gray or silver Honda Odyssey and fled the area, according to prosecutors.
Police said the suspect is believed to be in his 50s and was wearing a black suit, black gloves and a dark-colored tie.
The Morris County prosecutor's office also said social media reports claiming the suspect had been detained during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 were false.
Authorities released photographs of the suspect and the suspected getaway vehicle. They urged anyone with information, including home surveillance or dashcam footage, to contact the prosecutor‘s office.
