Yesterday, 106 & Park host and HOT 97 personality DJ Megatron (born Corey McGriff) was fatally shot on Staten Island, and so far no arrests have been made. Neighbors told cops they saw four young men running from the area after the shooting, but police have yet to find a witness. However, they have nearly ruled out that the shooting was a robbery gone wrong, and think Megatron may have been shot over an unpaid debt.
About three months ago, "Megapayup" commented on a YouTube video featuring Megatron: “I always helped him out when ever he needed it, with out a question. This one time tho, i was the fool. Did him a huge favor cuz i understand we all need the help at times. Time arrived for Mega to own up to his responsibility and? what do u know? he is dodging me, how ugly is that?...So u say ur not gonna pay the bill...Bad shyt will stay happening to u, cuz you do bad." However, his brother said the beef wasn't that big of a deal, and that, “He’s the person that gave back. His thing was to give back to the community."
Police sources say it was suspicious that Megatron was on the street around 2 a.m., and had left his 4-year-old alone at home. He had also been arrested multiple times for marijuana possession and sale, and in 2007 received probation for a weapons bust. Megatron was a father of three, and reportedly had a girlfriend with whom he lived on and off. BET said in a statement, "We extend our deepest condolence to his family. He will truly be missed."
