Yesterday turned out to be twenty degrees warmer than normal. It hasn't been that above normal since last April! Unusually warm weather will continue today. Both the Weather Service and AccuWeather think this afternoon's maximum temperature will approach the record high of 68 degrees set in 1981. If it is to get that warm, these morning clouds have got to disappear! The less sanguinary Weather Channel is calling for a high near 60. Either way that should be enough warmth to melt the remaining two inches of snow on the ground at the Central Park Zoo.
Don't put your hats and gloves away just yet, kids. A cold front is going to sweep through town tonight, resulting in a cold and blustery Saturday. Although the temperature will hold steady around 40 degrees tomorrow, the wind is the real story. There's a tight pressure gradient behind the front that will produce winds in the 20-25 mph range and gusts to 50 mph all day tomorrow. The wind should die down by Sunday, which should be cool but pleasantly sunny.
It looks like the city will get hit with a pair of storms as next week begins. The first low will pass to the north late Sunday night and bring a mix of rain and snow changing to rain on Monday. The President's Day high could range anywhere from the lower 40s to lower 50s. The second storm will take a southern route and perhaps bring some snow on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Tuesday's going to be cold but the temperature will rebound a bit for the rest of the week.
