Police are looking for the person who stabbed a man in his back early Wednesday morning at a Lower Manhattan subway station, NYPD officials said.

Officials said the incident happened around 5:20 a.m. at the Broadway–Lafayette station on the B/D/F line, in SoHo.

First responders took the 51-year-old victim to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, according to authorities.

Police said they were still investigating the circumstances of the assault and did not yet have a description of a possible suspect.

Transit crime is up by a handful of incidents so far this year compared to the same point last year, according to NYPD data.

Nearly half of the reported crimes in transit in 2026 have been grand larcenies, while felony assaults and robberies make up the next largest shares, the data shows.

This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
