When searching for a motive and a suspect behind the fatal shooting of BET and HOT97 personality DJ Megatron, police questioned just what he was doing on the streets that late, especially considering he left his four-year-old at home. Well, friends say they have an answer. One friend claims he had been on the phone with Megatron just before the shooting, and he said he was out buying marijuana. When the line went dead, his friend thought he had just hung up, but cops believe he was either shot or saw his shooter.

Megatron had reportedly been staying with his brother, but left the house around 2 a.m. and was shot just a few doors down. One friend also told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Megatron's four-year-old son had been at the window, and saw three men approach his dad in front of a bodega, though it's unclear if he saw his dad get shot.

At a candlelight vigil last night, Rev. Tony Baker, pastor St. Philip’s Baptist Church said, "We’ve been talking about putting down guns for the longest time, but it all [falls] on deaf ears. But tonight we need to make a step forward—we need to say, enough with the violence in our community, enough with killing ourselves." Childhood friend Elizabeth Burnside also mourned his death, and regretted that the two hadn't spoken in a year after an argument. She said, "And whoever is in your life that you love, I just want to tell them...no fighting, because 22 years is a long time and I never got to tell him that I’m sorry; I was too stubborn."
