With all the shopping, parties and stress the holidays bring, is this actually the most dangerous time of the year? In one day, four people died in four separate traffic accidents. Newsday summarized the incidents:
- 94 year old Charlotte Paula Walz was killed when walking to a mailbox in Rego Park Friday evening; the driver stayed at the scene and was not issued a summons
- A Nissan 350 hit a Nissan Altima at 108th Street and Astoria Boulevard in East Elmhurt; Altima pasenger 24 year old Wendy Almonte was killed. Her boyfriend was charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI while the 350 driver was charged with driving with a suspended license.
- A mother of 6, Damiana Zuniga, was killed late Friday night when crossing Mother Gaston Boulevard at Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn. She as hit by a Trailblazer SUV that was later found abandoned. Police did find and charge Neysa Bland with manslaughter, driving with a suspended license, and DWI.
- And 26 year old Manuel Castillo was killed at Hylan and Cooper in Staten Island. Police are still looking for the gold SUV with tinted windows.
These deaths are so sad. And why does driving with a suspended license mean people can still drive? Sigh.
