Police arrested and charged a Bronx man with murder Tuesday, a day after he allegedly stabbed and killed a 53-year-old resident on a street in Melrose in the middle of the afternoon.
NYPD detectives found Sean Jones, 38, around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday using surveillance video, in the same Bronx precinct where he is accused of killing George Ennin on Monday, officials said. Jones, who police said lives in Morrisania, also faces charges of manslaughter and weapons possession in connection with Ennin's death.
Officers discovered Ennin stabbed multiple times and unconscious around 2 p.m. Monday on Third Avenue and East 157th Street, a few blocks from his home. Emergency medical workers transported him to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Attorney information for Jones was not immediately available early Wednesday as he awaited his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court. Police said the attack appeared unprovoked and Ennin and Jones did not know each other.
Ennin's death marks the first homicide this year in the 40th Precinct, which includes Melrose, Mott Haven and Port Morris, according to NYPD data. The precinct had 11 homicides in 2025, down from 14 the year before. Homicides declined 20% citywide between 2024 and 2025, police said.
