Ah, the Yankees. Never has a pro sports team so effortlessly blended success with pretentiousness. The latest example of the latter comes courtesy of General Manager Brian Cashman. Apparently Cashman thought so little of the Trenton Thunder's uniforms for Derek Jeter's last game with them on Sunday, he felt the world should know it.

Cashman, in an interview with ESPN2 yesterday, mocked the Thunder's patriotic unis. "We had a tough loss against the Mets [Sunday], so I was like ‘Derek I’m going to take a picture of you in this uniform here and I’m going to lift our guys’ spirits [in New York]," Cashman said. Then, because that wasn't enough, Cashman added, “And I’m also going to send the message: try to do everything you can to not get injured so you don’t wind up in a minor league rehab assignment wearing a uniform looking like this."

Classy! Look, unless your patriotism is on the level of Glenn Beck (which it's not so don't even try to act like it is!) you can see that these uniforms are horrendous. But the Thunder took in Jeter, rehabbed him, and sent him back to the Yankees, ready to go. Does the team really need the snobby Cashman to point out how bad the unis were?

Perhaps it was karma then, that lead to Jeter's 0-4 stinker and Yankees loss last night. Maybe next time Cashman won't be so quick to spout his fashion critiques.
